Depression and neglecting mental illness over a long period leads to chronic diseases like obesity, heart disease, premature death, gastrointestinal disease, cancer, a weakened immune system many more.
People suffering from mental health disorders are more likely to suffer from sleep problems like insomnia and sleep apnea. About 50 to 80% of patients suffering from mental illness have sleep problems. Mental health problems like depression, bipolar disorder etc lead to sleep problems.
It is a sign of mental illness also. Due to anxiety and depression, the patients start smoking. Smoking is very bad for physical health. So mental health affects physical health.
Mental illness leads to low motivation of taking care of yourself. In depression, anxiety etc you start harming yourself and stop to take care of your physical health.

Gratitude also enhances mental health. It has been linked to happiness, mental health and well-being.
